Meet the team

The team at St Catherines View brings together experience, clinical oversight and steady leadership within one coordinated home. From the Home Manager and Clinical Lead to care colleagues, hospitality, housekeeping and maintenance, each role contributes to how the home operates day to day. Communication is consistent and responsibility sits clearly within the home, so decisions are well informed and standards remain dependable.

Care is delivered by people who know the residents well and work closely together. Continuity matters, especially as needs change. Behind the scenes, the wider Colten Care group provides governance, professional support and shared learning, strengthening how the home is led and maintained. What families see is a team that works with clarity and purpose, with the resident at the centre of every decision.

Home Manager – Vanda Baker

Vanda brings more than 30 years of experience across the social care sector, with a career spanning a wide range of management roles. For over a decade, she has led care homes as Home Manager, building a reputation for thoughtful leadership and consistently high standards of care.

Her extensive experience has given her a deep understanding of what matters most to residents and their families, alongside the importance of supporting teams to provide compassionate, person-centred care every day.

Vanda’s leadership is calm, approachable, and focused on creating an environment where residents feel secure, respected, and well supported, with quality of life at the heart of everything the home does.

Clinical Lead – Stefan Zhelyazkov

Stefan is our Clinical Lead, responsible for overseeing all clinical aspects of care within our home, ensuring that residents receive exceptional, person-centred care tailored to their needs. Stefan leads the nursing and care teams, providing clinical expertise and guidance to ensure that best practices are followed and regulatory standards are met. Stefan is dedicated to delivering excellence in care, fostering a culture of continuous improvement, and supporting the professional development of the care teams under his leadership.

Customer Support Advisor – Vicki Heaton-Smith

As our Customer Support Advisor, Vicki is dedicated to providing exceptional service and support to new enquiries, residents, families, and visitors. Vicki is the first point of contact for enquiries, ensuring everyone who contacts our care home receives clear, helpful information and a friendly, professional experience. Vicki assists families throughout the process of choosing the right care for their loved ones, offering guidance on our services, answering questions, and providing ongoing support. From coordinating visits to addressing concerns, she is there to help every step of the way, even making sure new residents have everything they need to settle into their new home.

Admiral Nurse – Kay Gibson

Kay is our Admiral Nurse, a specialist dementia care nurse working in partnership with the charity Dementia UK. Kay works with families to provide support, advice and reassurance. This might be reviewing your loved one’s daily life plan, discussing medication or looking for hints and suggestions on how to get the most out of your care home visits, especially where someone with dementia is presenting complex behaviours. With her extensive knowledge and qualifications in dementia, Kay primarily supports our dementia communities with clinical needs (such as nutrition and medication), social well-being needs (such as meaningful activities) and assists in the review of our dementia training and development of our dementia strategy.

Nursing Team

Our nurses are on duty at Newstone House 24 hours a day, seven days a week, delivering expert clinical care with consistency and compassion. They play a key role in supporting residents’ health and wellbeing, combining clinical knowledge with a calm, reassuring presence. With a deep understanding of dementia, they respond sensitively to changing needs, helping residents feel safe, understood, and respected. Working closely with the wider care team and healthcare professionals, our nurses help shape and adapt personalised care plans that enhance comfort, dignity, and quality of life.

Head Chefs

Our home benefits from two dedicated Head Chefs, ensuring our kitchen operates seamlessly seven days a week. This commitment allows residents to enjoy the same high standards of dining every day, with fresh, seasonal, and thoughtfully prepared meals. This is Gabby, who, along with his fellow Head Chef, works closely with residents and the care team to design menus that support wellbeing, offering variety and creativity to make every mealtime a pleasure. Gabby is responsible for leading the catering team in preparing delicious, nutritious meals that cater to the diverse dietary needs and preferences of our residents. With a passion for creating high-quality, home-cooked dishes, Gabby ensures that every meal is balanced, flavourful, and tailored to individual requirements, whether for specific health conditions or personal preferences.

Companionship Team

As Companionship Team Leader, Laura is responsible for creating and coordinating a wide variety of engaging and meaningful activities that enhance the wellbeing and enjoyment of our residents. Laura and the team work closely with residents to design a programme of activities that caters to diverse interests, abilities, and preferences, ensuring every resident has opportunities for social interaction, creativity, and fun. This includes regular minibus trips out of the home, keeping residents connected to their community.

Health Care Assistants

Our Health Care Assistants provide compassionate, hands-on care and support to our residents, helping them with their daily activities and ensuring their comfort and wellbeing. This is Miyumi, one of our Senior Care Leads, who works closely with the nursing team to maintain person-centred care, tailored to the individual needs of each resident. The team’s responsibilities include assisting with daily personal care, taking medications, helping with mobility, and offering emotional support to ensure residents feel valued and respected.

Gardener

Ali is St Catherine View’s gardener, dedicated to creating and maintaining beautiful, tranquil outdoor spaces that residents can enjoy all year round. With a focus on enhancing the wellbeing of our residents, Ali ensures that the gardens are inviting, safe, and accessible for all. Ali will encourage residents to relax, walk, or even participate in light gardening activities, understanding the therapeutic power of being in nature and the impact it can have on our residents’ quality of life.

Senior Administrator

Our Senior Administrator is the friendly face and organised presence at the heart of our home’s daily operations. They are responsible for ensuring that the reception area runs smoothly, providing a warm welcome for residents, families, and visitors. They play a key role in supporting the home’s management and care teams by ensuring that all administrative processes are efficient and in compliance with regulatory requirements.

Housekeeping

The Housekeeping team plays a crucial role in maintaining a clean, safe, and comfortable home environment for our residents. With the utmost respect for our residents’ private space, the team carefully clean rooms and en-suites, including residents’ own keepsakes such as pictures and ornaments. Personal clothing is carefully laundered, ironed, folded and returned to residents’ rooms on a daily basis.

Maintenance

Our Maintenance team ensures that our home facilities operate safely and smoothly for residents. They support residents with routine maintenance and minor repairs as needed. Their duties include conducting monthly tests and inspections on various equipment, such as fire doors, water temperature outlets, fire extinguishers, security doors, internal and external lighting, wheelchairs, window restrictors, reclining chairs, and nursing beds.

“All staff are so good at what they do. Very professional and they certainly know the resident’s individual needs.” – Yvonne P, daughter of resident at St Catherines View
