Short stay and respite care at Linden House

There are times when dementia support is needed for a defined period. A family carer may need planned respite, someone may be leaving hospital and not yet ready to return home, or families may need space to consider longer-term arrangements without pressure.

Short stays at Linden House offer a period of living within our dedicated dementia home, with care assessed and delivered in the same way as for longer-term residents.

Stays are typically available from two weeks or more, providing flexibility without long-term commitment.

Because the home is designed specifically for people living with dementia, even a temporary stay takes place within an environment organised around familiarity, structure and specialist support.

Temporary support within a specialist setting

When a short stay may be helpful

A short stay may be appropriate when:

  • A family carer need planned respite
  • Someone is leaving hospital but requires further support before returning home
  • A period of rest would help stabilise routines, sleep or nutrition
  • Families would value time to experience a dedicated dementia home before making longer-term decisions

Each stay begins with a clear assessment to ensure the right level of support is in place from the outset. Expectations are discussed openly so the stay feels predictable and well managed.

Fully part of the home

What a short stay looks like here

Residents staying for a short period are welcomed fully into life at Linden House. They have their own room, enjoy meals prepared each day, and spend time in shared living areas and secure gardens alongside other residents.

Support reflects individual needs and established habits, using the same assessment and review process as for permanent residents. Whether care involves assistance with personal care, structured routines, or nursing oversight, support remains consistent throughout the stay.

The aim is to provide steadiness and reassurance, even over a shorter period.

Four weeks for the cost of three

Linden House is one of the select few Colten Care homes currently offering four weeks for the cost of three when arranging a short stay, allowing families more time to experience the home before making longer-term decisions.

Time to settle and decide

Support during recovery or transition

For those recovering after illness or hospital treatment, a short stay offers time to regain strength in a setting that is calm and organised around dementia. Nurses are on site day and night, allowing changes in health to be noticed and managed promptly.

Short stays can also provide clarity. Families are able to see how care works within a dedicated dementia home, understand how support is delivered, and meet the team without feeling rushed into decisions.

Clear communication throughout

Supporting families during short stays

Families value knowing that care is being overseen carefully, even when the stay is temporary.

Communication is practical and consistent. Our team explains how support is working, keeps families informed of any changes, and answers questions as they arise. This allows carers to rest properly, rather than worrying from a distance.
