We want people to live well with us, making the most of every single day. If that means being together until the end of life, we want our residents to die well with dignity with family around, in familiar surroundings with staff they know well.
Care at the end of one’s life is an important part of what we do. We bring to palliative care the same commitment to individual dignity and comfort as we do to every other aspect of our care. We also pay close attention to the needs of family and friends.
Through advance care planning with the resident and family, we pay careful attention to the needs of residents and their family and friends. We aim to ensure that the last days of life are as peaceful and comfortable as possible. We provide the care at the end of life the resident wants.
Our home teams are skilled to help residents and their families at this difficult time in a homely, supported and dignified environment.
To further improve our capabilities, we work closely with a number of hospices local to our home.
“I cannot fault Amberwood House and all staff there. They made my mother’s last few months a joy with their caring, kindness and unfailing compassion.” – C W, daughter of resident at Amberwood House
Reflecting our strong belief that good end of life care should extend to supporting families and friends afterwards, we hold an annual Celebration of Life Day.
This an opportunity for relatives, friends, current residents and staff to get together in person and remember those who have passed away.
Held every summer since 2017, it is typically a heartfelt event featuring poems, music, hymns, readings, prayers and the posting of written messages on ‘memory trees’.
Amberwood House’s nurses are available for all residents, at all times. We believe that’s the bedrock of a safe and happy home, providing nurse-led care to manage complex medical conditions, whilst ensuring all residents can stay within their familiar and comfortable home setting should their care needs change.
Our care teams assist with all aspects of daily living for our residents, from personal care to taking regular medications, working flexibly to promote independence providing support to maintain the physical care and comfort of residents.
Our residential care service is designed to provide a comfortable and relaxed home environment where home maintenance, laundry, cooking and housekeeping are taken care of on your behalf.
Short Stay & Respite
We offer the same high quality care services enjoyed by our long-term residents on a short-term basis. Whether it’s for a short period of recovery, a respite break or simply a trial run for those looking for a permanent move, we offer a home from home where residents can live their life, their way.
Although Amberwood House is not a dementia home, we are committed to supporting our residents to live meaningful and fulfilled lives, and that includes those living with the earlier stages of dementia or cognitive impairment.
