Our Home

Newstone House is located in the beautiful market town of Sturminster Newton. Contemporary and luxurious, it manages to combine the brightness and efficiency of a modern building and state-of-the-art facilities, with the friendliness and openness of the traditional local community within which it resides. It’s a large home, split into six distinct house groups, with a dedicated facility on the first floor for people living with dementia.

The home is part of Colten Care, an independent and family-run company determined to set the highest standards in all aspects of care for the elderly. With our simple, all-inclusive pricing structure, there are no hidden extras or non-refundable deposits.

Our Garden

We pride ourselves on our beautiful and stimulating gardens. We recognise that many of our residents had such gardens themselves, and that gardening may have been a special pastime for them. We like to think that we can offer residents the opportunity to continue that pastime in whatever way they feel appropriate.

Taste of Dorset Awards

We are the headline sponsor of the Taste of Dorset Awards for the seventh year running. We believe that wholesome, nutritious and well-balanced food and drink is an essential part of the care we provide. It is critical to our well-being in so many ways but should also be a pleasure in itself. With a passion for skilfully crafted and beautifully presented meals, our support for Taste of Dorset reflects our recognition of all those individuals, businesses and organisations involved in local food production.

Elaine Farrer, our Operations Director, has written an article for Nursing Times exploring how to live well with dementia:

Dementia shouldn't be a barrier to living well
Can living well with dementia actually be achieved? I know it can, but only if you allow the person to actually live with dementia.

Colten Champions

Every year, we celebrate the hard work and dedication of the team members across the Colten group who consistently deliver above and beyond expectations. Colleagues, residents, and their relatives can all put forward their nominations, before the finalists are invited to a glittering gala ceremony at Bournemouth's Highcliff Marriott Hotel, hosted by none other than TV's Dr Hilary Jones.

We are very happy to say this year we won the 'Dining Experience' award here at Newstone House, with the judges praising the team for creating a calm, relaxing and enjoyable dining experience for residents.

Caring Without Plastic

Colten Care has become the first major provider in the UK's private care home sector to begin a group-wide reduction of single-use plastic. This is a significant move given the care sector's traditionally high use of plastic in clinical services, person-centred care and infection control.

Here at Newstone House, not only are we supporting all of the central initiatives, but we are also working closely with residents and relatives to seek other ways our home can reduce our consumption of plastic. If you have any ideas or suggestions which could help us in our plastic-free drive, please do get in touch.
